In the drawing, research and progress workshop we create new functionalities for everyday objects

On Saturday November 16, 2013 we approached the ABC Museum of Madrid to participate in the workshop called Tracing knowledge: drawing, research and progress, which was included as one of the activities of Science Week.

The objective of the workshop was create new functionalities on everyday objects. Our reference was Leonardo da Vinci from which we were taught many of the designs of his inventions, such as a machine to stretch spaghetti, a helicopter or a winged design to fly. They also taught us the notes that he wrote with his inventions and that served as clues to organize his ideas and remember his creations. So the objective was to develop new functionalities to objects that we usually handle such as a mobile phone, which touched us, a television, a camera, a computer, a microwave and even a toilet! and write a brief description that would then be exposed to the rest of the participants.

In the video you can see my daughter explaining the functionalities we developed for a mobile phone she called Samsung 3,000. It was about building a device that responded to emotions and that change color based on our mood To inspire and rejoice. You could also turn off with a snap of fingers and, the functionality that I contributed and that my daughter improved and expanded, that could project images such as the contacts calendar, YouTube videos, Flickr photos and Gmail messages.

Although there were many more creations of great interest for example:

  • Television: allowed to get inside and live the adventures with the protagonists of the favorite series. The girl who introduced him was delighted to star in his chapter with SpongeBob, Patrick and Jack Kahuna Laguna
  • Toilet: It was a garbage recycler in such a way that you threw away the garbage and chose the type of recycling to be applied. If they were containers you gave the yellow lever and the container was sent to the corresponding container, if it was paper you gave the blue lever and so on. The toilet incorporated some blades to crush and that could pass the garbage to the recycler
  • Digital photo camera. Faced with the need to make all the models look beautiful and beautiful in the photos and with the added effect of the wind on the hair, the creation of this girl included a fan in the camera so that all the photos came out perfect
  • Computer: the creation of Marcos, the only child in the workshop, consisted of a robot that used the computer to perform multiple tasks at home
  • Microwave: it became a television in which you could watch any program besides it worked as a microwave
  • Wheel: it became a carousel to transport people who also changed color as they moved around the city
  • MP3: It turned the one who carried it into a singer like the one that was playing on the mobile device. Also the headphones to listen to the music were wireless. So if you wanted to sing like Selena Gomez you just had to choose the song and hala! to sing musical successes

We loved the workshop, it flew by and reminded us of the activities Pep Torres told us a few months ago in Peques and More. And if you build an environment free of creativity and imagination, the children overflow their capacity and we offer proposals full of interest.
