Did you just have a baby? Do not forget to take it to the doctor in your first week of life

The arrival of a baby at home turns everything upside down, and normally, if everything went well, we leave the hospital to enjoy those first days with our son. But it is very important that although apparently there is nothing to worry about, If you just had a baby, don't forget to take him to the doctor in his first week of life.

Pediatricians recommend that the first contact of the newborn with the Primary Care pediatrician be established in the first seven days of life to avoid "risk of complications and that breastfeeding be abandoned because the difficulties arising are not resolved in time."

The first checks performed at the hospital to the newborn are key to assess their general condition, but we should not stay there even if we see that everything is fine. There are reviews that only pediatricians can make and detect any problem in time will allow us to solve it as soon as possible without major consequences.

The most frequent reasons for consultation in the first week of life are related to difficulties with breastfeeding, although parents are also very concerned about crying, constipation, jaundice and problems in the baby's navel.

As pediatricians have commented at the 63rd Congress of Pediatrics held in Bilbao, only 61% of parents were recommended to attend the baby's first visit to the health center in the first week of the child's life, and only 38.2% of children do.
