The four reasons why you should not use your baby's ears

One of the doubts of recent parents when they have just bathed their babies is related to ear care and hygiene, because there are times when they see dead little skin in the ear and wax coming out of the ear. In stores they do not sell anything concrete to clean it beyond the typical sticks and many parents have heard that it is better to do nothing.

However, it gives them little things to take the children like that, with that wax stuck there, sticking out, and many end up using them, the sticks. That's why today we leave you with the four reasons why you shouldn't use your baby’s ears.

1. With the sticks the wax can go inwards

Look at the ear canal of your babies or your children. It's tiny, right? That means that if you put a stick to clean the ears you can not do much more than push the wax inwards.

This causes it to stay at the end, to be compacted, and that everything ends in a wax plug which, in addition to being annoying for the child, is relatively complicated to extract.

2. That you hurt him

Another possibility is that hurt him somehow. That you introduce it more than you wanted and damage the child's duct, or that it moves abruptly and this causes some injury.

3. That the skin of the ear canal be affected

Wax is a secretion that occurs in the ear that has as its mission protect it from substances that may enter, and even insects. As it is produced, it is expelled outwards and that is where it should be cleaned, when we see it outside.

If we put sticks, the skin of the ear canal may flake, feel it as an "aggression" and start producing more wax to defend itself. This would obviously be a major problem: stick a stick to remove the wax and see that instead of having less, over time it has more.

4. Learn that this is for the ears

What do children do when they see a mobile? Put it on his ear and make them talk. What do they do when they see a comb? Try to comb your hair. What will they do then when they take a stick of the ones we use for the ears? Put it in your ear.

One of the great dangers is that they learn that they are used for the ears, that they know that they have to be put inside and that they do it themselves. They do not know what they are doing, they do not know how far they can or cannot put them and they do not know that there is a very important and relatively fragile structure called eardrum, which is better not to touch. So, as they don't know, they are capable of hurting themselves.

So how do I clean my son's ears?

Well, as we said a year ago: with the elbow. That is, in no way. The ears are not cleaned because that's what the wax is for.

All we have to do is let a little water fall in the shower from the head, so that it goes in and out a little through the ear. Then, when we dry our head, with the same towel we dry our ears and a little the exit of the ear to where the thickness of the towel and our finger allows us, that is, almost nothing. This way we clean what could have come out and do not harm him unnecessarily.
