A four-year-old boy saves his mother's life with the help of Siri

Surprising the maturity with which Roman, just 4 years, perfectly manages a situation that many adults would despair. His mother suffered a faint at home, where the boy was with his twin brother and another younger brother, and his reaction saved his life.

The boy took the mother's cell phone, unlocked it with his fingerprint and with the help of Siri, contacted the emergency service. He explained what was happening and in a few minutes they went to his house. That was how with four years he saved his mother's life.

A request for help

The recording uploaded to YouTube by the Metropolitan Police is really distressing. You can listen to the complete conversation of the child with the person who answers the call. He even comes to believe that his unconscious mother "is dead." Below you can find the transcript of the conversation.

-Police: Hello, Police, what is your emergency?
-Roman: Hi, I'm Roman.
-Police: Hello, where is your mother?
-Roman: He's at home.
-Police: And where are you?
-Roman: At home too.
-Police: Can you do me a favor? Can you put mommy?
-Roman: I can't. She's dead.
-Police: You said mom was there, what do you mean when you say she's dead?
-Roman: It means that he is closing his eyes and not breathing.
-Police: Ok, do you know where you live?
-Roman: -intelligible- street, 22.
-Police: Can you approach Mommy and move her for me?
-Roman: He doesn't wake up.
-Police: Move it well and shout "Mommy".
-Roman: Mommy! It does not work.
-Police: Are you in Kenley - Croydon area?
-Roman: Yes, Kenley.
-Police: What's your name?
-Roman: Roman

Thirteen minutes later several agents and health workers arrived at the house. There they managed to revive the woman and took her to the hospital.

How to prepare our children to manage emergency situations

The head of the department that answers emergency calls, Ade Adelekan, stands out in a press release the importance of teaching children their address and how to call the Police.

It is key to teach them what to do in these types of situations, even if it is not pleasant for them. How to do it:

  • Teach him how to call the emergency number. Always leave it in sight.
  • Show her the home address and leave it pointed on a paper that is always in sight.
  • Explain in what situations you should call emergencies (if mom or dad has an accident or passes out, someone comes into the house, a fire occurs, etc.).
  • Teach him to make an emergency call without unlocking the phone. Both iOS and Android allow access to the SOS without unlocking the device.
  • Playing is a good way to teach them: role plays are a great idea to simulate emergency situations without scaring them.
  • Talk to the children about the work of emergency services and the importance they have in society.
