Blood tests to find out the sex of the baby at the 6th week

Until now, it was almost impossible to know the sex of the baby during the first trimester of pregnancy.

The only known way was by means of an ultrasound around week 14 or 15, as long as the baby was allowed to see "its parts".

But there is a new quick and easy way to know that can revolutionize prenatal treatment: a blood test performed on the mother from the sixth week of gestation, that is, almost at the same time that you find out that you are pregnant.

The method has been developed by a group of geneticists from the Jiménez Díaz Foundation, in Madrid.

In addition to being nice for parents to know the sex of the baby so early, it is an important advance for the early treatment of diseases such as hemophilia, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and others such as congenital adrenogenital syndrome, which is not the same for both sexes

Knowing sex would be essential to know what steps to follow in the event that there are any of these diseases, which require different treatments and the performance or not of invasive and risk fetal diagnoses such as amniocentesis.

The team continues to work on refining the technique and appeals to all pregnant women who are in the first three months of pregnancy to undergo this analysis.
