Abortion itself is a danger, but when it is performed illegally, the danger increases alarmingly. A report from Doctors Without Borders warns of the risks involved in the practice of an illegal abortion and the health insecurity it offers, to such an extent that one death occurs every six minutes due to an illegal abortion.
The figures could be described as scandalous, no less than 46 million abortions are performed every year in the world and of them, almost half are performed in dangerous conditions that can end the life of women. Up to 13% of annual maternal deaths worldwide are the result of complications resulting from an illegal abortion. Whoever practices this type of pregnancy interruptions does not know or cannot solve the fatal consequences, whether due to ignorance, lack of means, hygienic measures and a long etcetera that do nothing else but strongly condemn this practice. The data shows a lot of complications, injuries, infections, hemorrhages, etc. In addition, it should be added that for women who manage to survive this intervention, in many cases they lose the ability to conceive or will have serious problems in the future to become pregnant again. In the African continent an abortion is up to 700 times more likely to end tragically, the risk does not compensate at all.
The majority of deaths occur in underdeveloped countries, lack of means and lack of information makes many women put themselves in the hands of true butchers. There are too many deaths that occur in the world to be noticed, it would be interesting to carry out informative campaigns that explain to all women the risks of illegal abortions, but also show the importance of the life they have in their wombs.
Pursuing those who perform an abortion illegally is necessary, as is education, knowledge is a powerful weapon to fight against this practice.
