Most working mothers do not want to have more children

The truth is that the situation is not easy for working mothers Spanish. The difficulty (if not impossible) of reconciling work and family life makes the majority of them, no less than 85 percent, I don't want to have more children. Not because they don't want to, many of them would have them, but they decide to give up maternity for work reasons.

It is one of the conclusions of a study of the Family Action Foundation, included in the book "Women and Equal Treatment. Analysis of motherhood in the European Union", which compares data on maternity and work in several European countries, placing Spain as one of the countries with the highest labor discrimination towards mothers.

There are many women who resign their professional life to take care of their children, while others juggle to try to make both things compatible. The main reason why those who work go from having more children are the excessively rigid and prolonged working hours, totally incompatible with the school schedule.

It is not surprising. Half of working women have no children. Those who are not yet mothers consider it, since the news of a pregnancy is poorly seen in the workplace, and those that are already are usually seen as a problem. Many suffer from what is known as maternal mobbing.

The tendency to leave work as the number of children increases occurs throughout Europe, however in Spain it is greater. Only 4 percent of working women have three or more children.

It is unfortunate that there are no real labor protection measures for moms, such as reduced paychecks, telecommuting, flexible hours, etc. Than most working mothers do not want to have more children it is painful. It is clear that there is still a long way to go in terms of work and family reconciliation.
