Recently I read an article that compared having a child with a chocolate bar. He maintains that we have children for satisfying a need, because it makes us happy at any given time, but it is an ephemeral happiness that in the future dissipates with the obligations, dedication and work that the children entail. This reflection leads us to ask ourselves a question Does having children give happiness?
Various studies suggest that having children does not increase net happiness, and even suggests that it means being less happy than not having them. Some point out that women's happiness does not lie in being a mother, but in factors such as education, work, economic status and the relationship with family and friends.
If we go further there are supporters of movements without children such as Women Child-free, who see children as a hindrance to personal fulfillment rather than as an enriching experience. And they even compare motherhood with another gastronomic metaphor: "the emotional caviar of the poor."
Indeed, the day to day of the father and mother is full of difficult moments. Nobody said it was easy. When sleepless nights are small, changing diapers and being one hundred percent aware of a person who needs us 24 hours is certainly tiring. Let us not forget the commitment to educate them, economic responsibility, and a long list of etc.
But being parents also has beautiful, spectacular things. Even in those "less happy" moments, and therein lies the secret of the parents' happiness, in finding it beyond what may seem like a burden. There is exultant moments of happiness that only a father or a mother can feel. The day a child is born, when he sleeps on your chest, when they say "I love you", a hug, a kiss, every achievement, to see them grow ... and above all, seeing them happy makes us happy.
To me personally being a mother makes me very happyotherwise I would not have chosen to have children, let alone three. Of course, there are less pleasant situations, but in the end happiness is moments. And those moments of happiness compensate me greatly.
