The teenager decides when to shave

The changes they experience with 12 or 13 years can overwhelm them and even embarrass them, so they avoid discussing them with their parents, their best allies even if they don't realize it.

And among the children, the appearance of hair on his face, at first as 'mustache in the mustache', may be one of those moments of doubt and shame. He may not like his appearance or maybe his classmates are pressing him to take it off.

In Babies and more "We have to place ourselves behind our teenage children to help them take off," we talked with Josep López Romero

The truth is that there is no age to shave for the first time and it is the child who decides when the time has come. As parents, we must accompany, be there to help them when they ask us, to offer us if we see them doubt, but not to pressure them.

It is true that the father is the one who can best teach his son to shave and turn that first time into an unforgettable moment father-son, but 'by consensus', without pressing.

There are several conditions that can make the first shave a success or a failure, such as the correct exfoliation, the correct application of the gel, the adequate subsequent hydration, the right choice of the razor or, of course, its impeccable use.

In fact, BIC®, a manufacturer of shaving products, explains that "It is considered that learning to get the most out of the razor from the beginning is key for shaving to be the ritual of effective and pleasant beauty that is expected". They give us some tricks that they consider basic and that will be very useful.

Your first shave, step by step

It is clear that the skin of the father and the son are not exactly the same, as age, shaves and many other factors make them differ in sensitivity and touch. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a good razor blade for your child and that the father and the child do not use the products in the same way.

1. Choose the appropriate razor. There are many types of razors. However, those that have the most advanced technologies are, without a doubt, the most recommended, especially until it becomes practical.

If you have acne, the blades with more leaves are somewhat better because they allow better filtration and shaving only the hair, avoiding damage and unnecessary cuts and if you have a flexible head will make it adapt well to your skin.

2. The ideal moment. At night, since that allows the skin to calm and regenerate during the night rest, preventing it from being exposed to inclement weather (cold, wind, heat, etc.) while still being irritated.

If possible, it is advisable to do so when leaving the shower, because the heat opens the pores and the hair is better removed.

3. Prepare the skin. Shaving gel or foam will depend on your child's preferences. Shaving without using this is quite harmful to the skin. Better avoid alcohol-free products.

4. Light pressure. It is recommended to move the razor on the skin by exerting light pressure to avoid irritation or redness. It is better to take several passes than to take one, strong, and end up cutting.

5. Use both hands. One is responsible for taking and driving the razor through the area to be shaved, the other must take care of preparing the way; that is, to stretch and tighten the skin.

6. In the direction of hair. Passing the razor in contradirection to hair growth allows to achieve a more hurried result. However, doing so in the same way helps to avoid the appearance of redness or irritation. Hence, at the beginning, the second option is more advisable. To find out which direction the hair is going, just run your hand over.

On the chin and the edges of the jaw it is better to follow the contour of the face with short and soft passes.

7. Aftershave. After shaving, simply use the shaving lotion to moisturize the skin, close the pores and, after a couple of pats on the cheeks, conclude your first shave. Better not to carry alcohol, since the adolescent's skin is still very sensitive.

8. Clean the razor. After shaving, rinse the razor with hot water to remove hair and cream, and let it dry naturally. Never handle the sheets or dry them with a towel, as this could spoil them for future use.

And if hairs appear under the skin?

An unequivocal sign that it does not shave well are cystic hairs, that is, they grow below the skin. This is mainly due to the wrong choice of the razor, shaving in the wrong direction or using a razor already paraded.

In these cases it is advisable to exfoliate the skin before shaving to release the trapped hairs, as well as apply the gel or shaving foam with a circular motion contrary to the direction of the hair.

When does it change the blade?

There comes a time when getting the perfect result requires more effort. That's when it's time to replace it.

We hope that these tips are useful for you and that your child's first shave, with your help, be a beautiful unforgettable memory for both of you. Because although he is no longer a child, he still needs his parents as much or more.
