The Nature Train to bring the Sierra de Guadarrama to the little ones

The environmental education program The Nature Train brings its participants to the Sierra de Guadarrama with the aim of awakening in them interest and respect for their natural resources and values. Although the Train of Nature has a school program, which runs from May 8 and ends on October 31, now that the holidays are and for the general public, it can be accessed from July 4 until September 20.

Visitors are received at 10:30 am at the Cercedilla railway station by the educational team of the Valle de la Fuenfría Center that accompanies them throughout the day. The program starts in an old electric train car, which specially enabled as a projection room, is located in a dead track at the Cercedilla train station. In it, participants can watch an audiovisual on the Sierra de Guadarrama.

The program also includes a forty-minute journey through which the narrow route is traveled, the route Cercedilla-Navacerrada-Los Cotos enjoying both the landscape and the explanations of the educational team. From Cotos there is a guided walking tour through the Peñalara Natural Park in an environment of great beauty and environmental and cultural value. Finally he returns, in the same train to Cercedilla station in the early afternoon.

73,000 visitors have already participated in this educational program since it was launched in 1991. Information to the public and reservations are made from the Valle de la Fuenfría Environmental Education Center or from the RENFE Cercanías Madrid group coordination office. Prior reservation is required to participate in the program.

On the Renfe page they indicate that the days of activity are Thursdays and Fridays. The prices are adult and child (round trip) for 17.80 euros. An adult (round trip) is 10.10 euros and a child (round trip) is 8.40 euros.

In my opinion and although the program is full of attractions, I think that these prices are disproportionate and totally dissuasive for families to visit the Sierra. further do not indicate prices for large families What seems most unfortunate. If we want to bet on sustainable tourism and because children enjoy nature, these prices seem to me that they will not get it. Yes it seems very good to me, and I hope that fast results will be achieved, that the Community of Madrid wants to establish agreements with entities, public and private, and associations or companies of Cercedilla, Navacerrada and other interested municipalities, for the creation of tourist packages associated with Travel by train, which may include accommodation, catering, sports, recreational or leisure activities.

The Train of Nature is a project promoted by the Ministry of Environment and Land Management of the Community of Madrid in collaboration with RENFE - Cercanías Madrid.
