Look at the moles and spots on your children's skin

As we have already told you, today June 13 is celebrated on World Day Against Skin Cancer, and together with the advice to prevent skin cancer in babies and children that we should not forget at any time, we will also see some you suspect that the skin of our children could be suffering some alteration.

Experts point out that the early detection of alterations can be a gigantic step in stopping skin cancer. But how do you know if there is any risk? Let's look especially at the moles.

Although skin cancer is more common in adults, in recent years there are more and more children and adolescents with this disease (up to 10% of the total), especially fair skin. There are several possible causes that explain this increase, but above all we are interested in knowing who is most at risk and how to detect suspicions of skin cancer.

Regarding the first topic, we have already pointed out that light-skinned people are the most vulnerable, those that spend more time exposed to the sun and also those that have abundant freckles and moles on the body. We stay at the moles to see what can tell us that something is wrong:

  • Borders of poorly defined moles, which cease to be rounded and spread irregularly somewhere.

  • That the mole has two or more different colors.

  • May the lunar blood sting ...

  • That the mole increases rapidly.

  • Even the mole disappears.

In all these cases, we must go to the dermatologist to monitor moles or spots and really tell us if it is a serious problem or not, since an early consultation could save children from skin cancer.

In the video that follows we can see a news from El Salvador on this subject and how there are still many children who do not wear protective cream of high factor despite being exposed to the sun:

Finally, remember that photoprotection and not only when we go to the beach or hiking) is a basic pillar of skin cancer prevention. We hope not to forget any day when they will be exposed to the sun and monitor children's skin and moles to detect any suspicious changes quickly.
