Australian children will begin to learn programming from the 5th year of school

I don't know if the world is changing more quickly now or has it always been that way ... until relatively recently it was a novelty for children to change notebooks for computers and tablets and now a new wave is coming: to teach them to program software from an early age. It's what they are going to start doing in Australia and I guess it's a trend that is going to spread rapidly throughout the world.

The government has not only announced a significant increase in investment in education, but also the priority of the subjects of mathematics, engineering, science and technology, making it clear that The coding bases will start from the 5th year of school, while the programming from the 7th year.

Other programs that the government wants to promote are summer schools and pilot centers for primary school children ... apparently it is sought that learning is increasingly based on practice and in the experiences that prequeños can live.

I have talked about it with an engineer and his vision is that it is more important to train children in basic sciences, according to his words 'the programming is based on mathematics, so the most important thing for a good programmer is to have very good bases in that subject'. Personally, it seems like a good idea to give them the tools in that field… it is clear that education must evolve with technology and with learning models, but I am not sure that it is a good idea to do so at that age. What do you think ?.
