As much as you succeed in choosing diapers, your baby will not fall asleep

Dodot It is probably the best known diaper brand in our country. Its capacity for innovation in terms of absorption is highly appreciated by parents who use disposable diapers, and despite the fact that the price is not always available to all budgets, We are many who have bought them on more than one occasion for our babies (Although now the difference with other diapers is no longer the same and in many cases the white label works just as well or even better).

However, one thing is that their diapers convince you because the tests and you see that you are doing well, and another very different is that the parents buy them because we believe that thanks to the diapers our children will sleep all night; and it is that as much as you succeed in choosing diapers, Most likely, your baby won't sleep at the stretch.

What does the Dodot ad say?

Dodot published a commercial announcement on September 1 on its Facebook page showing the difference between wearing a non-brand diaper and wearing a Dodot.

In the video, the baby wearing a diaper of another brand wakes up at night and the mother (or father, although she appears in the video), becomes in a way guilty and victim of that awakening, because of having put a Dodot diaper would have slept all night, as they make us see in the following sequence.

The problem is that is not true

I can understand that when marketing is sought to extol the properties of the products you are trying to sell; but it is hard to understand that they get to exaggerate in such a way that the effect is the opposite.

I explain myself: it is possible that many parents buy Dodot diapers because they think they will sleep like this all night. However, it will take a short time to realize that that does not happen and they are likely to feel so deceived that they decide to change diapers or try a cheaper brand (because if it works, the expense compensates, but if it does not work we talk about something else ).

Let's say the ad It is only true in cases where babies do wake up because they are wet. However, this only happens in a minority of babies, because most of them wake up for other things. In addition, the Dodot diaper should be infallible, and many parents do not just do well (as with many other brands in certain babies) because leaks and leaks occur that can also wake the baby.

Babies wake up naturally at night

Babies who wake up at night, who are the majority, they do eat, to make sure that they are not alone, to continue sending the message to their mother's body that they are still small and should not have another (frequent breastfeeding often delays menstruation avoiding a new pregnancy and allowing the mother to spend more time baby) and to avoid falling into a very deep sleep that would put them at risk of suffering from sudden baby death syndrome.

With so many reasons to wake up, it seems unlikely that a diaper will get a baby to sleep as well as they want us to believe, and less if we consider the following data:

The AEPED in its breastfeeding guide for professionals specify:

  • That at 6 months they are able to sleep 6 hours in a row (six hours, not all night) only 16% of babies.
  • That night awakenings are a frequent phenomenon, at least until the end of the first year of life.
  • That at 4 months (it could be the age of the baby of the announcement) 48% of babies wake up once to take a shot between 22:00 and 05: 59h; 37% make 2 shots; 11% make 3 shots; 3% make 4 shots; and 1% make 5.

An observational study (filming of sleeping babies), which curiously appears in Dr. Estivill's dream book, shows that 44% of babies sleep from 00:00 to 05: 00h at 2 months and 78% do so at 9 months. This study is used to convince in this book that the percentages are "for the whole night", when in fact they only talk about 5 hours in a row.

PS: By the way, in case Dodot is interested in knowing what is expected of a diaper, parents are satisfied that they do not smell bad, that they have a good level of absorption and that they do not leak (oh, and that the price is competitive).
