Tips and precautions to prevent your child from falling out of bed

One of the many fears in which we do not think until our children are born, is that they fall out of bed.

And if you are a mom or dad there are only two options: either your son has never fallen or he has already dropped you. It is something that sooner or later happens to parents and that can happen during the first months or until four or five years of age.

So regardless of the group you are in, I share some tips and recommendations to prevent your child from falling out of bed.

From newborn to the first months

As your baby grows, your needs are changing and we must adapt many things at home, including the place where you sleep. Regularly during the first months you do not fight much with this because most of the children sleep in a bassinet or cradle.

During these stages both places are safe because in the case of bassinet, only the first months are used in which the baby does not move practically anything and is not yet able to turn. In the case of the same crib, surrounded by bars there are not many places to go, but we must ensure that it is a safe crib.

It's important to put attention on The crib should not be used beyond a certain ageWell, there comes a stage in which children find themselves escapists and run the risk of harming themselves trying to get out of it.

What if we make colecho?

In the case of colecho, it is advisable to use a special crib at the beginning to do so, since starting sleeping between parents is not the safest.

Another option to start is glue the bed to the wall or put some kind of barrier on the shore and that the baby sleeps between her and the mother. In this way, the baby will be protected and a fall will be less likely. Remember that the colecho is safe as long as it is done responsibly.

When it starts to turn and / or crawl

The moment the baby start to give signs to start practicing the turns, is when we have to adapt the place of sleep so that the day or night that manages to do so does not take us by surprise. At this stage it is important to take precaution also when we place it on a high surface to change the diaper or when we take it to a medical check-up, we should never turn our backs.

For babies who sleep in a crib there is no problem because they are still protected. However, in the case of colecho we must take some precautions.

We can use railings that can be attached to the bed or begin to lie in the middle of mom and dad. Leaving the bed close to the wall is also an excellent option, however we should consider placing a barrier at the foot of the bed, so that the baby crawls or makes crazy movements during the night that take him to the bottom of the bed.

Another option is place a rolled towel under the mattress on one of the edges so that it is slightly inclined. In this way, it will not be possible to turn towards the shore, just take care that it is not too raised.

From the cradle to the individual bed

When it's time to move on to the individual bed, things tend to be easier since the beds for children are usually shorter and most have railings that can be removed when the child is older.

An option that also works in the different stages mentioned above, is place the mattress on the floor. In this way the fall will not be so serious, in addition to that we can place some cushions so that they do not hit the floor.

Do not trust us because we see you safe

Although some accidents occur when children sleep, turn and fall, others happen when we are on a normal day in the room with our son in bed or the changing table. A mistake that many parents make (and I include myself because it happened to us the first time our daughter fell), is that when our children already sit for moments, we can think that nothing happens if we turn a few seconds to have a drink.

In less than a second the children move quickly and end up falling to the floor, so It is important that we do not trust or lose sight of them. If we need to take something the best that is more than one arm away, it is best to carry them in arms or place them on the floor to prevent an accident from happening.
