How are the birth registration procedures in Mexico

Who can be registered as Mexicans

As in most countries, all babies born within Mexico automatically obtain their Mexican nationality.

  • Those born abroad, children of father, mother or both Mexicans born in national territory.

Requirements for birth registration in Mexico

In order to register a baby in Mexico it is necessary meet some requirements and submit certain documents:

1.Introduce the baby accompanied by both parents or accompanied by the mother, in case of being a single mother.

2. Deliver one of the following Proof of Mexican nationality of one or both parents: Birth certificate; Declaration of Mexican nationality; Naturalization Letter; Mexican passport; Consular registration of high security.

3.Present local birth certificate (certified copy) or proof of delivery. If the local birth certificate was issued in a country other than that of the registry, it must be filed legalized or apostilled.

4.In the event that the father does not attend and the marriage certificate of the baby's parents is not presented, or, it is a different person who makes the registration, so that the name of the father can be included in the registry it is necessary that he asks for it by himself or that present a special power of attorney issued by a notary public or Mexican consul, stating the petition.

5.Two witnesses over 18 years of age.
