Universal Children's Day: Today, children rule and have many things to say

Today November 20 is celebrated on Universal Children's Day, a date that reminds us that all children, without distinction, have the right to health, education and protection. But nevertheless, children are also the most vulnerable group and therefore the one who suffers most from the crises and problems of the world.

Therefore, on a day like today it is worth stopping to think about them and give them the floor so that they can freely express what we are doing. What is in our hands to do to change the lives of millions of children around the world. Today, children rule.

The children take the floor

To celebrate Universal Children's Day, this year UNICEF has launched the # LosNiñosMandan campaign, an exceptional initiative through which children from more than 130 countries in the world will take command of the media, politics, business, sports and entertainment to tell us what are their concerns and what do they think world leaders should do for them.

According to UNICEF, the objective of this campaign is that the little ones are the protagonists of their day and can give voice to the millions of children who live in poverty, who cannot go to school or who are victims of wars, child labor and child marriage.

An NGO survey of children from various countries of the world has revealed that 65% of children are concerned about terrorism, violence, bullying and education, followed by 40% who are worried about treatment that refugees and immigrants receive.

In addition, children from all countries in which the survey was conducted agree that world leaders should address and provide solutions to these types of problems.

Because it's time for children to raise their voices for their rights and for the world to listen to what they have to tell us!

Figures that make the hair stand on end

According to UNICEF data, cEvery year 5.6 million children die in the world due to preventable causes. In addition, 535 million live in countries affected by wars or natural disasters, and 264 million children and adolescents do not go to school.

But it is not necessary to go very far to become aware of the sad reality that many children suffer, since in our country one in three children lives at risk of poverty or exclusion, and the dropout rate is around 19, 9%

For its part, Save The Children reminds us that there are also in our country Children who suffer the consequences of domestic violence. In the last two years, more than 70 children have been orphaned as a direct result of gender violence and at least seven of them lost their lives in the same aggression in which their mother lost her.

Therefore, on a day like today it is very important become aware and join the global appeal for children and the protection of the most vulnerable children, as well as recognizing the work of organizations and institutions struggling to achieve real changes in the lives of millions of children around the world.

Because all children, regardless of race or place of birth or residence, have the same rights and it is everyone's job to recognize them and ensure their well-being and development:

  • Right to equality, without distinction of race, religion or nationality
  • Right to special protection so that they can grow physically, mentally and socially healthy and free
