The noise of fairground attractions, a serious health problem for children

We have all gone with our children to fairs intended for children, where you can find all kinds of fairground attractions, the witch train, the ferris wheel, the octopus, live uncle, etc. Fairground attractions They try to get attention with lights and music, especially music.

It's a serious problem that can affect our ears, the sound generated in these places reaches up to 90 decibels. A study by the Department of Otolaryngology of the University of the Basque Country warns us about the problem and shows us a comparison, in the noisiest street of the city of Bilbao, at a peak hour they reach up to 70 decibels, 20 less than in one of these children's fairs. The problem affects adults and children, so much noise can cause various problems in adults but with more emphasis on children, headache, irritability, stress, hypertension, etc., the noise that is generated is comparable to that of a pneumatic hammer .

Adults have an ear training, being able to adapt as much as possible to the noise emitted, however, the little ones are more sensitive and lack this training. In the study, several cases have been detected in which children suffer from anxiety and excitement states resulting from exposure to fairground noise.

The noise is a problem that affects the health and ears of children, at this Christmas time there are many fairs that are installed in the populations, in each attraction the music predominates at a high level, to which we must add the noise of the attractions and that of the audience. We relate this great load of decibels with the festive nature of the place and we don't care, what's more, we think it's normal.

It is difficult to ask the traders to lower the volume of the music, as it is difficult to try to avoid the fairs, places where children fully enjoy. But we must bear in mind that so much noise can cause hearing problems in children.

It would be interesting to have a regulation that regulates the sound of these places, that would be a solution and surely the traders would stop competing with each other, raising the music to the maximum in the fear of a fine.
