Children and adolescents are less violent in countries where corporal punishment is prohibited

In Babies and more We have shared the news of countries that decide to prohibit by law the physical punishment of children, not only because it is proven that they do not work, but that they are also harmful for children years and are reflected years later in their life as a couple.

Now, a study gives us one more reason to eradicate this form of punishment completely, because it was found that Children are less violent in countries where physical punishment is prohibited.

In a study published in the BMJ magazine, the behavior of more than 403,000 children and adolescents was analyzed through two studies. Participants were asked if they had been involved in altercations or physical fights, and in case of obtaining a positive response, comment on the amount of these incidents within a certain period of time.

The age range of the participants was from 11 to 17 years, and it was found that in those countries where physical punishment was prohibited there were lower rates of violence in young people.

The information analyzed included data from 88 countries, of which 30 are strictly prohibited from physical punishment (i.e., at school and at home), 38 had partial bans and 20 had no prohibition.

The researchers conclude that with these results the hypothesis that suggests that in societies where physical punishment is prohibited are a less violent place for teenagers to develop, compared to those that have no prohibition.
