Baby cots (I)

The cradle is a fundamental place where your baby will spend a lot of time in it, either in your room or in your room when you decide that the time has come. In another post we will analyze the classes of cribs, but in this we are going to stop in which are the characteristics that they must fulfill so that the small one rests calm.

First, you have to choose a mattress that suits the crib, which in principle should be a big problem because the cribs are made in standard sizes, although it is always good to make sure. Ideally, between the mattress and the crib do not fit more than one finger to be able to change the sheets easily but without danger to the child.

As with choosing a mattress for you, you have to pay attention to hundreds of details. The crib mattress should be firm, in fact firmer than the ones you have in your own bed, since, as the little one will not be able to get up, a hard mattress will facilitate the task of raising your head while lying. Take the test by supporting your hand and seeing how much it sinks. As for the material, the ideal is that you choose one that is organic and hypoallergenic. Experts do not quite agree on whether foam or springs are better for babies. Simply support your hand and take the firmer, and remember that the higher the number of springs, the more firm. There are some crib mattresses that have an antibacterial layer to prevent microorganisms from growing after reflux of the little ones or if the diaper has leaks. The prices of crib mattresses range between 70 and 150 euros, depending on the quality.

The mattress covers can be PVC or cotton curl. In some cases, they are even sold with both possibilities depending on the side of the mattress. Our advice is that you choose the option that suits you but if you notice that the baby is hot by the plastic cover, do not hesitate to use the cotton one. You may have to wash it more often and you will have to use the vacuum on the mattress from time to time to make sure that the mites stay away from the child, but it is best for the child not to get hot. If your child has allergies or asthma, be sure to wash this cover often at 60 ° in the washing machine to remove all mites and bacteria.

Once again, when you go shopping bed sheets (or if they give them to you), make sure they are of the correct size with the crib mattress. Do not leave wrinkles and make sure that they do not escape through any corner so that the child does not curl in them. The material of the sheets should be natural fibers, thread or cotton depending on the time of year.

As Lola said in a post, it is essential to wrap the child in a blanket, especially at the beginning to give him security. Do not abuse the blankets and try to follow the same guidelines that we have commented on the sheets: that fit the mattress and allow the baby to adopt the most comfortable posture.
