Weaning can generate anxiety in moms

Weaning can generate anxiety in moms, especially if, despite even having made the decision voluntarily, they were not at the bottom prepared to stop breastfeeding.

This is stated by doctors Elsa Regina Giugliani, Luciano Borges and Joel Rennó, pediatricians and psychiatrist respectively, in an article published by the Brazilian medical journal specializing in breastfeeding Aleitamento.

They explain that mothers, when weaning, can feel guilty and sad, so you have to be attentive to know how to perceive those symptoms of anguish and grief. Do not blame them or banalize the process, neither by them nor by their environment. It is a normal feeling that must be respected.

Once the umbilical cord is cut, breastfeeding maintains that deep contact and communication with the baby, naturally because we are mammals, so breastfeeding is part of the relationship between mother and child, building an intimate space of physical and emotional connection .

The premature rupture of that link that goes beyond the nutritional needs preparation and loving care for both to maintain the same feeling of emotional union, something that is completely possible but that some women may cost a little more, if they live weaning as a loss of the conditions of communion with the baby or think they did not do enough.

Above all the environment must be very understanding, help and reinforce that motherhood will be able to live with the same love intensity.

There is no picture of depression due to weaning, but it is necessary to remain attentive to symptoms of deep sadness or permanent anguish.

Above all it is important help moms so that they can breastfeed at least two years and, if weaning is inevitable, do so according to some guidelines that will help them and the babies to adapt better to the situation.

Weaning can cause distress in some women but it is normal to happen and above all, you have to take care of them so that they feel safe and calm again if this happens.
