One of the news that has been known this week is that, in the framework of the pension system reform, the proposal that having children could complement the pensions of working mothers.
It is still very green, but it is suggested that the number of children could help to complete the necessary fifteen-year contribution period (at present) to be able to collect the Social Security retirement benefit. It would be a “special consideration” for mothers who park their jobs for some time to take care of their children.
In this way, having children would be equated with financial compensation, as in France where each child counts as two years of contributions.
Of course, the proposal has had repercussions of all kinds.
Among the positive ones, it is considered a fair recognition for mothers and a way of solving the problem of future retirement to some extent, as well as an indirect way of promoting birth. Recall that according to population projections, it is believed that in 2050 there will be 1.6 active people for each pensioner when last year four were counted for each.
Among the negatives, there are those who believe that the father has the same right as the mother to benefit from this measure. And there is also controversy over whether all the children would count or only from the second or the third, since in order to have a replacement each couple should “provide” at least two children.
