Myopia in pregnancy

The pregnant woman is likely to notice a slight loss of vision. What happens is that approximately 10% of women, myopia gets worse in pregnancy.

Due to fluid retention caused by the action of hormones, many women may see increased myopia that they suffered before pregnancy, or even suffer from myopia even without a history.

Like other parts of the body, the cornea and lens of the eye are also affected by the increase in fluids in the body of the pregnant woman. This causes the visual function to be disturbed during pregnancy.

Myopia can increase even in a diopter, although it is normal that it does not reach average.

In most women, this visual disturbance returns to normal a few months after giving birth.

However, in about 20% of cases, refraction can remain after delivery. Among them I think I am, because it has been more than a year and myopia continues to be aggravated, so it seems that I will have to graduate my glasses again.

Ophthalmologists recommend that if you intend to have an operation to correct myopia by laser and you are pregnant or plan to be shortly, the intervention will be delayed until after delivery as before it may not be as effective as it should.
