"Photoprotection 2011: your skin never forgets", campaign for the correct sun protection

Good weather and vacations arrive, and our trips to the beach, the countryside, the pool ... multiply. With this, we expose ourselves much more to the sun, so remember the risks of improper exposure. The General Council of Official Colleges of Pharmacists launches a Health Campaign in order to influence sun protection.

This campaign, which has the collaboration of the Official Colleges of Provincial Pharmacists, has just begun and will run until September 15, 2011, with the title: “Photo Protection Campaign 2011: Your skin never forgets”.

The campaign focuses on the "solar memory" of everyone's skin, as it is shown that skin problems in adulthood are largely conditioned by the amount of radiation received during childhood, in addition to each sunburn causing damage irreversible on the skin.

It is a campaign divided into two phases, the first for professionals and the second, the one that interests us most, aimed at the general population. Information material will be distributed there and provided healthy tips on photoprotection.

Among the messages of the campaign, the possible risks of photosensitivity reactions by medications will be emphasized and citizens will be reminded to consult the pharmacist if they are regularly taking any drug such as anti-inflammatories, diuretics, hormonal contraceptives, etc., since many They can cause skin reactions when exposed to the sun.

The skin of pregnant women, babies and young children they have a special prominence, and the importance of protecting their delicate skin with a good photoprotector that has to be replenished frequently, not only on the beach, but in the park, on the steps, practicing sports ...

We highlight these tips from the campaign's brochure:

Children, pregnant women and the elderly need special care of their skin. They must use a full photoprotector daily.
If you have photosensitivity, sun allergy, acne, or atopy, be sure to use specially indicated photoprotectors. Check the labels.
Use the photoprotector generously. Apply it half an hour before sun exposure, on dry skin. Renew sunscreen every two hours.
During sun exposure drink plenty of water. Offer water to children frequently, even if they are not thirsty.
