Today is Children's Day in Brazil

Today, Hispanic Day is celebrated in Spain, but it is also a special date in Brazil: October 12 is Children's Day or "Dia das crianças".

Recall that Children's Day or Universal Children's Day is a day dedicated to fraternity and understanding among the children of the world and destined to activities for the promotion of the welfare and rights of the children of the world.

Although the UN and many countries celebrate that day on November 20 (in commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989), many countries have their own date.

In Brazil in the 1920s, deputy Galdino Valle Hijo had the idea of "creating" Children's Day. The Chamber approved it and became official October 12 as Children's Day by President Arthur Bernardes, through a Decree in 1924.

But only in 1960, when some childcare companies decided to increase their sales by publicizing the date, the date came to be celebrated. The strategy worked, since since then Children's Day is celebrated with many gifts. The date is important for the toy sector in Brazil, but we do not want to forget the essence of the date and what is intended with it.

Therefore we take advantage to highlight some rights of children, which should not be forgotten any day of the year:

  • Children have the right to life.
  • Children have the right to play.
  • Children have the right to freedom and to share their views with others.
  • Children have the right to publicize their opinions and express their ideas.
  • Children have the right to a family.
  • Children have the right to protection during armed conflicts.
  • Children have the right to freedom of conscience.
  • Children have the right to protection against carelessness or negligent treatment.
  • Children have the right to protection against child labor.
  • Children have the right to appropriate information.
  • Children have the right to protection against trafficking and kidnapping.

  • Children have the right to grow up in a family that gives them affection and love.
  • Children have the right to a name and a nationality.
  • Children have the right to food and nutrition.
  • Children have the right to live in harmony.

  • Children have the right of freedom.
  • The children have right to the world peace.
  • Children have the right to health.
  • Children have the right not to be discriminated against because of sex, creed, ethnicity or ideology.

Many rights that become objectives to be achieved in so many places in the world, in so many countries, in so many houses ...

The need for a solution and not forgetting these rights is still very valid, so that this day in which Brazil celebrates Children's Day, has served as an excuse to retake them. Happy birthday!
