McDonald's exchanges toys for books as a "hook"

I do not know what you think of this initiative of the hamburger chain, but I imagine that, judging by the comments when we have talked about the subject of toys that gives children, you will have much to say. McDonalds has initiated a campaign to promote reading in the United Kingdom, where he will give books instead of toys to those who ask for his famous Happy Meal children's menu.

McDonald's has been fined in Brazil for inducing bad eating habits with toys, and in Spain they already set out to end gifts on children's menus. In fact, the hamburger chain makes efforts to offer healthier menus, but it seems that its methods of giving toys to children next to the menu still do not please the authorities.

So in the UK they have devised this novel campaign in which you are delivering copies of children's books for the purchase of the children's menu by "War horse" author Michael Morpurgo. Book delivery began on January 11 and will be accompanied by a TV campaign from February 2012.

This has been possible thanks to the collaboration agreement reached by McDonald's and HarperCollins publishing house, and among the selected works is "Mudpuddle Farm: Alien Invasion". In total, six books from this author's children's collection will be offered during the promotion.

The idea seems quite good, or rather accommodating, and although I do not know the work of this author, I imagine that its popularity is because young people like it. Of course, our children (most have not yet started reading, and less of this type of novels) do not think it makes them very excited to change their toy for a book of these characteristics.

And in any case, It is still a kind of "bribe" for us to fall into the networks of McDonald's menus, which will remain equally unhealthy. But of course, if they give me a choice, toys or books, then as a mother I choose books. Now, British children have the last word.

And one says that she has not gone with her daughters yet to this establishment. For now, I prefer to start reading, games and eating habits through other routes, without ruling out that on occasion we will go (surely we will, even to remember old times) and I am indifferent whether or not gift or even if there are salads or not.

Anyway, our colleagues in Peques and more have contacted McDonald's Spain, to find out about the possibility of this initiative coming to Spain and from the communication department they have commented that they do not plan to carry out the promotion this year.

So we will have to wait to see if in other countries McDonald's exchanges toys for books as a "hook", something that will have arisen in case they may silence some voices that stand against their usual little gifts for children. I wonder if it would not be easier to make the menus healthier to have happier clients and critics.
