'Birth and the economy' as the motto of the World Week of Respected Childbirth

Visiting the EPEN website (El Parto es Nuestro), we have heard that from May 21 to 27 the World Week of Respected Childbirth which gives us the opportunity to know in depth one of the issues surrounding the promotion of respected birth. This year's motto is "Birth and economics" (Birth and economics / La naissance et l'argent / Geburt und Geld).

The Birth is Ours is a non-profit association, formed by users and professionals that aims to improve the conditions of care for mothers and children during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum in Spain.

During this week we are invited to a film forum session to see the pass of the documentary “The Buisiness of being born” (The business of the birth) of Ricky Lake (producer) and Abby Epstein (director) offered in 50 places in Spain. This documentary saw the light in 2007, and its premiere was announced with phrases how 'To be born is a miracle, a natural part of life, but ..., it is more than that, to be born is a business ... a clear demonstration of the marginalization of women and the contempt of the innate intelligence of the mother and the baby be born'

The United States is the country to which the documentary refers, it is a country where there are very striking figures of caesarean sections. As for the delay in the implementation of the WHO recommendations for delivery care, there is a situation similar to that of Spain. That is why in our country there has also been a relentless increase in the number of caesarean sections and instrumental deliveries.

The next World Week of Respected Childbirth is an opportunity to learn about international opinions on a specific issue related to the promotion of respected birth. The SMAR takes place every year during the month of May. Objectives and ideas are proposed to perform according to a common motto
