The Allergy and Food project to inform parents and children about allergic food reactions

When we started to suffer at home the allergies of the small one to the proteins of cow's milk one of the things that we had to do was mainly to search on the Internet because the information of the professionals, in addition to limited and dispersed, focused on performing analyzes and Medical diagnosis without any additional recommendations. On the Internet it was very difficult to find references and information to understand what that allergy meant, what foods could be taken and how to manage having to ask everywhere if what the little girl was going to consume had milk or not.

So it is a big step for families with allergic children the project called CESA food allergic reactions in which it is intended that patients participate in a study with doctors, nurses, researchers, psychologists, educators, cooks and other professionals that make up this team.

The initiative is led by the Spanish Association of Food and Latex Allergy (AEPNAA), the Association of Food Allergy and Latex of Catalonia (Immunitas Vera) and the Basque Association of Food Allergies (Elikalte) together with doctors and researchers and other professionals from the EDUCASMA group of the La Paz University Hospital in Madrid and the IdeasenSalud.com team of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).

It's about a pioneer participatory research project in Spain, which seeks that patients know the information of allergies, that they have quality medical information and that they help create and participate in educational programs. It is intended that children improve their quality of life and can also reduce future health costs.

And is that Food allergy is a very common disease in childhood, they suffer between 5% and 7% of children in Spain, and the negative consequences it has on the self-esteem and quality of life of children are not sufficiently recognized in our society.

Allergy and Food also has a YouTube channel to show the real and practical experiences of the participatory research project with children who have a food allergy.

The project comes at a magnificent moment because in Spain there is an almost absolute lack of educational programs aimed at parents and children with food allergy. So We congratulate the launchers of the initiative and hope that information flows between parents and professionals so that all new patients have sufficient knowledge base to coexist in the best possible way with the allergy.
