Pediatricians meet to analyze the most frequent clinical cases among children

A few weeks ago, some primary care pediatric medical professionals have met at the Medical Association of Madrid at the Conference Clinical cases in Pediatrics. Interactive course for doctors to address the most prevalent or dominant pathologies in the specialty. For this they also used an interactive system, which allowed the trainees to participate anonymously, frequent clinical cases were analyzed making the diagnosis and decision-making in a similar way to how they would have to do it in consultation.

For him Dr. Juan Casado Flores, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the U.A.M., Head of the Pediatric Intensive Care Service of the Niño Jesús Hospital in Madrid and one of the speakers at the Conference, "The purpose of the meeting was to update some of the most frequent and serious diseases of children, for this we present real patients with respiratory, gastrointestinal, infectious, renal and psychosomatic diseases, patients who present themselves as they debuted in the consultation and we made the diagnosis and differential diagnosis, as well as the treatment ”, all this to train the professionals in the best management of the pediatric patient.

On the other hand the Dr. Enriqueta Román Riechman, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Autonomous University of Madrid and Head of Pediatrics Service of the Puerta de Hierro-Majadahonda University Hospital, made a presentation on the infant with acute gastroenteritis (GEA), “one of the most frequent problems at this age and that if it is not treated well it can become an important problem, ”he said.

When there are different probiotics, during the day, a review of the scientific literature was made with the levels of evidence provided by each of them, we talked for example about Lactobacillus GG It helps maintain the balance of intestinal flora altered by external agents such as antibiotics, rotavirus or bacteria that can cause intestinal disorders and is probably the most studied probiotic in the world. The LGG acts at the level of the digestive tract stabilizing the composition of the bacterial flora, increasing the body's resistance to pathogens and improving and activating the defenses.

On the day a total of eight clinical cases as presented in the consultation:

  • infant with acute diarrhea,
  • choking with cardiorespiratory arrest,
  • respiratory distress and fever,
  • teenager with chest pain,
  • abdominal pain, fever and vomiting,
  • polyuria, polydipsia and decay,
  • edema, oliguria and dark urine
  • fever, headache, neck pain and decay.

Each patient manifests a different way of presenting to the same disease, so the doctor must interpret the signs, symptoms, the results of complementary tests and the response to treatment properly, since the proper diagnosis and treatment is for professionals a art that defines the good doctor: he who interprets and conjugates properly what he observes.
