The Spanish chefs will ask in Brussels that in schools the education of taste is included as a subject

Madrid has just been held on I International Congress of Gastronomy and Nutrition in which great chefs and specialized Spanish professionals have participated. One of the presentations referred to how children eat, nutrition training and healthy habits. And is that the 26% of Spanish children are overweight and 19% obese due to the abandonment of the Mediterranean diet and sedentary lifestyle.

So soon Spain will present in Brussels that the schools include the taste education as a subject. Nutritionists have highlighted in the congress what are the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, how it is necessary to educate the palate of the little ones, what needs to be done to enjoy a good breakfast, how to promote a lunch or dinner as a group act in family in which opinions are exchanged and how it is done to share the taste for good food.

Apparently in Spain the silent nutrition which is that the child uses a tray for dinner alone in front of the computer or television screen.

The cooks also took the opportunity to defend the consumption of fruits, vegetables and legumes, warning that everything can be eaten although it is not necessary to exceed the appropriate proportions. And is that 54% of Spaniards do not drink fruit So much remains to be done and improved.

Although schools have a lot of responsibility in promoting good eating habits by promoting healthy menus and encouraging children to eat healthy, it is at home that we have to do more work trying to encourage rich meals and encouraging them to cook a little more at home. We also have to share the time of the meal to explain the experiences of the day or plan the tasks of the day.

In my opinion in Spain we have great chefs and one international image spectacular. And it is a good idea to try to encourage children to know and practice nutritional habits. Although what is more difficult is to try to get children to learn everything in school, so it will be necessary to promote the realization of workshops outside the classroom in which to practice with professionals and perhaps leave classes for the dissemination and use of simple materials. And at home we will have to take advantage of the teachings of the numerous programs that are broadcast on television, the contents of blogs and do activities at home and in stores when you can to encourage children to approach healthy food.

On the website of the Congress you can access a video summary although I do not recommend seeing it because it does not include any statement from any of the speakers or attendees. It is like a collection of images with background music and that does not provide any information about the contents of the congress or about the sensation of the attendees. It seems to me that this video is not up to the comments and interventions of the speakers or attendees who filled the room of the Circle of Fine Arts in Madrid during the day.
