For an international registry of pediatric poisonings

We talk to you today about an interesting project that needs everyone's collaboration to create a worldwide surveillance system for poisoning in pediatric emergencies. In the video, an expert explains why this action is necessary, which seeks to reduce cases of childhood poisoning by intervening in prevention strategies.

We know that it began with a toxicological observatory of the entire Spanish State (created in 2008, the observatory of the Spanish Society of Pediatric Emergencies SEUP), but that an international registry is necessary to differentiate cases and prevention campaigns in Different countries of the world.

In January of this year 2013 a World Toxicological Observatory carried out by pediatricians and epidemiologists of the University Hospital of Cruces in an altruistic way and without any funding. Its development until the end of data collection will continue in the same way, but it is important to be able to disseminate the results obtained in the best forums, and for this they need financing.

In this way the results obtained will adequately reach both the scientific field and the rest of the population, and that is the main objective of the crowdfunding or micromanagement campaign that is underway and that we can see in Goteo.org.

So far, the study includes more than 130 emergency services from 27 different countries. The funds are also needed for the creation of a didactic recommendations guide based on the results obtained in the study and the creation of an online platform for public viewing of the results.

We like the initiative because Its ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life of children and adolescents in two different ways: define more appropriate preventive measures and detect deficiencies in the treatment of these children in different parts of the planet.
