The History of Spain will have more presence in Primary in the schools of the Community of Madrid

My math teacher said that in number e, that although it is an irrational number in class we knew some of its decimal numbers, there was the year in which Goya died. And is that the number e, which I still remember, was 2,718281… Well, in the second decimal it started the year Goya died, 1828.

That way of learning dates was as it was a few years ago. Currently I imagine it will be the same although seeing the news published by the Community of Madrid maybe not even the years in which things happen are learned. And, although we have a lot of information at our disposal Internet! not everyone knows how to use it or find it, so nor should we waste the impact of practicing mental agility and memory to remember dates. The Community of Madrid has indicated that some of the dates to know in primary they are: the arrival of the Romans to the Iberian Peninsula (218 BC), fall of the Roman Empire (476), Battle of Guadalete (711), Battle of the Navas de Tolosa (1212), fall of Constantinople (1453), Discovery of America and the Conquest of Granada (1492), arrival of the Bourbons to Spain (1700), French Revolution (1789), Uprising of May 2 (1808), World War I (1914-1918), Spanish Civil War ( 1936-1939), World War II (1939-1945), approval of the current Spanish Democratic Constitution (1978), accession of Spain to the EEC (1986) and entry into circulation of the euro (2002). The following ones to 1945 I have lived them all, that is to say that I remember, and the rest because also, indeed, they are fundamental dates and thanks to the knowledge of history we can understand the present.

The initiative has started with the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the Community of Madrid, Lucia Figar, which has met with a Commission of renowned personalities in History headed by the director of the Royal Academy of History, Gonzalo Anes, to set the most important dates and events in History that all Primary students in the region should master.

The way children can learn these dates they are many and varied, to the curiosity of the number e that my math teacher taught us, I add the one seen in the image and that my daughter also worked the other day at school, a timeline or timeline, on which the most relevant historical events are marked with a short description, also videos on YouTube, mind maps, etc. They can help us learn dates.

On the Internet there is plenty of information to learn, understand, deepen and finally memorize these dates. For teachers there are many ways to review them and to know if the kids know them, what are we going to tell a teacher about what their students know or not!

The Madrid's community believes that with this selection of historical milestones students will finish their primary studies better prepared and with a clear and precise vision of the main dates, events and characters of the History of Spain and Universal. The new elementary curriculum will be applied from the next year 2014/15 to the more than 400,000 Primary students studying in public, concerted and private schools in the region.
