Asturias will also have a breast milk bank next year

We keep telling good news. After knowing last month that Castilla y León will open a human milk bank in 2015, we now learn that Asturias will also have a breast milk bank from next year.

It will work on the new Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA) with altruistic donations that intend to provide this food so beneficial for admitted babies, in many cases premature or large premature babies, who cannot receive it from their own mother.

It has been shown that breast milk brings enormous benefits to babies, especially those with health problems or who were born before term. It helps reduce the incidence and severity of some diseases such as neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NNS), a very common disease in premature children, which is considered serious and has a mortality of 25%.

The one from Asturias it would be the ninth mother's milk bank in Spain. Currently there are in the Balearic Islands, Madrid, Valencia, Granada, Aragon, Barcelona, Extremadura and also from 2015, Castilla y León.

Of course it is great news, because although more banks are still needed to expand the coverage of territory, more and more babies will be able to benefit from the magical powers of this food.
