“80% of children sleep in company”, Rosa Jové

We have talked on the blog several times about Rosa Jové and her book Sleep without tears in which he explains, among other things, that the solution to children's sleep problems is not to let children cry until they fall asleep.

He maintains that it is normal for children to wake up at night. According to the latest statistics, 81% of 1-year-old children wake up at night and 54% still do so at 2 years, while around 3 or 4 years they have managed to regulate their sleep rhythm and are able to sleep all night long.

Meanwhile, patience, love and make use of a practice she promotes, about whose benefits we have also talked about Babies and more: the colecho.

Colecho means sharing the bed with the children, sleeping with them. There are parents who feel ashamed of assuming it, but it shouldn't be that way. It is the most normal and natural thing in the world.

Some sound like a somewhat primitive practice, so to speak, but nothing so far. In very advanced countries in terms of parenting such as Japan, Sweden, Norway or Finland the school is close to 90%. In fact, the author points out that every night 80% of children in the world population sleep with their parents.

Instead of scolding them because they "pass" to mom and dad's bed, parents should learn to accept it as normal, a way to help our child sleep better at night. He won't do it all his life, he will do it until he feels safe to sleep alone.

Jové also points out something that he had not thought about until now. In short, most adults also slept together, why would the children not want to do it?

There are those who wonder if so much dependence is not harmful to the child. But what is really harmful are the emotional consequences of indoctrinating them so that they learn to sleep alone, despite them.

Giving them security and protection when they look for it, what harm can we be doing to them?

I have it clear: the best family investment is a 2x2 bed.
