Zara workers with reduced working hours report irregular layoffs

Textile workers Zara that in their day requested a reduction in working hours to reconcile work and family life they are denouncing that they are fired from the company being accused of robbery.

Zara It is the most important company of Inditex, which has 70,000 workers worldwide, being 82 percent women.

With this percentage of women it is hard to believe that something like this can happen, however some of the dismissed workers have made the cases public, verbalizing their versions of the facts:

Mara Anton, 31 years old, was nine months off due to depression after having his son. Upon returning, he requested a transfer to another store because he was closer to his home, which he was granted: “There I started the 24-hour shift in the lady section”.

One day, on departure, the problems began: “The manager and the jury guard keep me in the store. Normally we showed the bags to the manager, but that day they tell me that the rules have changed and you have to show them to the guardian too. I was wearing a shirt in a bag, which a friend had given me. The manager tells me that I stole it. I tell him that it is a gift and then they notify me, at that moment by letter, that they suspend me from employment until June 9 ”. After this period she was fired.

Demanded Zara For this reason and in the trial he demonstrated, with the proof of purchase of the shirt, that it had been acquired in another shopping center: “I was reinstated, but of course, the situation was not very pleasant. They moved me to fitting rooms, with the manager sitting next to me, and the first day I find that they have alarmed the clothes three times. I asked for my vacations and I took them, with such bad luck that I fall and dust my shoulder and arm, and now I have been down for three months. ”

TO Sonia Sands, 34, they fired her, she says, because they found a companion's shoes at her box office. Apparently the problems began when he requested a reduction in working hours: “I had four years with reduced working hours and the last three with a lot of pressure. At six months I wanted to change days, section and even stores. As I refused, I could not talk on the phone, I could not go to the bathroom and the managers were always watching me. ”

One day the problem worsened: “The person in charge appears with a union link to review the lockers, I open mine and I find a bag that does not belong to me, with the shoes of a partner, which she wore to return. Instead of asking me or other colleagues, they call the person in charge and the union union ”.

As he explains, on the day of the trial they went to declare both the owner of the shoes and eight witnesses, all in favor of the company, and some of them were not the day everything happened.

Maria Isabel González, 29 years old and in charge of the central box in a store Zara she was fired accused of stealing 477 euros in cash. Apparently a videotape showed the theft, however, upon viewing it, the judge decided that the worker was not doing anything illegal. The jury declared the dismissal inadmissible and was sentenced to Zara to readmit the worker or to compensate her.

Zara It is a multinational company without any economic problem, whose benefits are counted in hundreds of millions of euros annually and whose workers are mostly women. If the cases that these women report are true, it is a pity that this company uses these types of methods to cease them in their work, taking into account that the reason is that the workers reduced their workday, working less to reconcile work with the family.
