Seventh abortion for listeriosis and new sanitary alert for meatloaf 'Sabores de Paterna'

Just two days ago we knew the news of a sixth abortion, a woman from Malaga who lost her baby at 22 weeks because of the listeriose, and the drip does not stop.

We just learned that it has occurred a new gestational loss, what would be the seventh abortion for the largest outbreak of listeriosis registered in Spain. Together with this sad news, the Junta de Andalucía announces a new national health alert for listeriosis in shredded meat of another brand, Flavors of Paterna.

Seventh listeriosis abortion

The last case is that of a woman who has lost her baby in the 23rd week of gestation. Unfortunately, abortions do not stop and there are still 14 pregnant women who remain admitted after having consumed the contaminated meat.

To avoid new gestational losses, the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) recently launched a new health protocol in which a preventive antibiotic treatment will be administered to all pregnant women who have eaten infected meat, even if they have no symptoms.

The outbreak declared last August 15, caused by the meat "La Mechá" has affected more than 200 people, has caused seven abortions and three deaths, and keeps 45 people hospitalized.

New national health alert

But things get complicated. In addition to announcing a new abortion, this noon the Junta de Andalucía has declared a new national health alert after detecting the presence of the bacteria 'Listeria monocytogenes' in the shredded meat of the brand "Sabores de Paterna".

According to the Andalusian Health Council, the product would have been distributed in Huelva, Cádiz, Málaga and Madrid.

"We have listeria in meatloaf from two different companies without clear evidence of connection between the two brands," said the Minister of Health Jesus Aguirre.

The production of the factory located in Cádiz has been suspended, the contaminated meat has been immobilized, and the company's precautionary closure has been carried out.

If you are pregnant and have consumed shredded meat of this brand, whether or not you have symptoms, see your doctor who will indicate the steps to follow.
